From Pastor Brian

Most listed followers of this blog are parents and members at Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church. I wanted to take a moment to tell you what a remarkable experience this has been for the whole team. As a leader, I have seen our youth jump into any and every project they have been asked to acomplish. Our task have been quite varied--we have presented VBS in several churches, some went out on a medical mission, we have helped mix and pour cement on a 6000 sq. ft. building to serve as an orphanage, we have chopped weeds with a machete (so parents don't blame me when your child brings one home-they really did use them to do the Lord's work), and prepared a chicken house to be re-screened in the fall so it can house 5000 chickens. Today we scattered a truck load of rock to provide better drainage for the orphange to reduce malaria risk. No matter the task, it has been carried out with enthusiasm and in a Christ-like manner.

I have been privileged to hear comments from other mission teams as well as from the people in Haiti about our group. Without exception, every comment is a complement. We have an incredible group of young people who are investing 9 days of their lives to bring change for children in Haiti. Mt. Horeb, be proud! You are an incredible church who has invested in 15 young people who are going to spend the rest of their lives changing the world.

  1. Thank you so much for the report Brian! Apart from my own child being part of the team, I have a connection to almost all of these youth in one way or the other. I have taught many of these youth and traveled with others. Students probably think we forget about them after they leave or classes, but that is so far from reality. I can say that reading each of their blogs has both inspired me and brought tears to my eyes. It has also influenced me to be a better person. We can learn so much from their example this past week. I can't wait for them to return, but at the same time, I wish they could stay longer to continue to reflect God's glory and advance his kingdom.

    2 Corinthians 3:18
And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

  2. Thanks Pastor Brian. It does a heart good to hear that our youth have not only impacted the people of Haiti, but other mission teams as well with their great attitudes. I, like Angela, know many of these students, one being my own, and the rest being friends of hers. I knew they were a great group before they left the church parking lot, but getting validation from other people is wonderful. We look forward to hearing more stories and seeing pictures and video upon your return. Praying that tomorrow will be a wonderful last day in Haiti followed by a safe and incident-free flight home.
